Friendship Trio consisting of three leading musicians from Asia: South Korean pianist and conductor Myung-whun Chung, Chinese cellist Wang Jian and violinist Kyoko Takezawa from Japan, presented a chamber concert in Shanghai on Saturday night.
Chung explained the idea of the Friendship Trio before the concert, and said that, "it's friendship to music, and friendship not just between us, but for all the three of our countries. Music can bring the three of us, each representing our culture, much closer."
Chung has conducted leading orchestras in Europe, the US and Asia. He is founder of the Asian Philharmonic, an orchestra made up of musicians from eight Asian countries.
Wang the cellist has had a brilliant career as a soloist, performing with renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic in Germany, the Netherlands, New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic in the US and many others.
Takezawa the violinist is internationally recognized for her virtuosic confidence and the fiery intensity of her performances, as one of the most sought-after soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras.
The trio will play another concert at the National Center for Performing Arts in Beijing on Apr 23.
